Create Free Video Chat Room in Slack for Any Channel

The interface is slick. Like with Slack, it defaults to channels, but these are called chat rooms instead. You can see all the members of a chat room at the very top of your app. You can easily search for related Google Workspace files from within the app itself.

These prompts are a great way to replace the "water-cooler" (or espresso machine, barista line, communal kitchen) chatter for remote or hybrid teams. Make sure to limit these prompts to once a day or folks may get annoyed at constant chatter in the team Slack channel. For those who want more casual conversation, create a channel that is chitchat-friendly. Finally, make sure leadership sets an example by chiming in. Slack can be a great way to recognize accomplishments and promote cross-team bonding as well.

Whether your employees are in-office or remote, don't forget to celebrate their special day. BirthdayBot is a free Slack integration that reminds you of upcoming team birthdays, privately. The app even comes with birthday wishes and funny Gifs that you can share in your team Slack channel to recognize a team member's birthday. It's a fun way to get the team involved to create a positive experience for their teammates.

Zoom is a free video conferencing software that makes video chats as easy as a Slack command '/zoom'. Instantly start a video meeting right from Slack to increase face-to-face time with your hybrid team.

Donut randomly sets employees up on coffee dates (or video chat dates for remote/hybrid teams!) With a dedicated channel, you can track Donut dates and share stories about these new connections. This is a great way for remote or flexible employees to feel connected and build relationships.

The Slack app functions much like an advanced chat room, where users can create simple profiles and communicate through chats enhanced by expressive features which include emojis, giphys, and hastags. At its core, it is a fun and easy-to-use chatting tool.

For example, AWS Chatbot enables ChatOps for AWS to monitor and respond to operational events. AWS Chatbot processes AWS service notifications from Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS) and forwards them to your Slack channel or Amazon Chime chat rooms so teams can analyze and act on them immediately, regardless of location. However, AWS Support customers had to switch applications from Slack to the AWS Support Center console to access and engage with AWS Support, moving them away from critical operation channels where essential group communications take place.

If you choose Live chat in Slack, you can enter the names of other members. AWS Support App will create a new chat channel for the created support case and will automatically add you, the members that you specified, and AWS Support engineers.

Initiating Live Chat Sessions with AWS Support Engineers If you chose the live chat option when you created your case, the AWS Support App creates a chat channel for you and an AWS Support engineer. You can use this chat channel to communicate with a support engineer and any others that you invited to the live chat.

To join a live chat session with AWS Support, navigate to the channel name that the AWS Support App created for you. The live channel name contains your support case ID, such as awscase-1234567890. Anyone who joins your live chat channel can view details about this specific support case. We strongly recommend that you only add users that require access to your support cases.

Slack offers four different tiers of service, one of which is free. The three paid tiers all have the same video calling features, so you will not receive any advanced video chat features by upgrading to a higher-priced tier.

Slack is an instant messaging program designed by Slack Technologies and owned by Salesforce. Although Slack was developed for professional and organizational communications, it has also been adopted as a community platform.[12] Users can communicate with voice calls, video calls, text messaging, media, and files in private chats or as part of communities called "workspaces." Slack also uses IRC-style features such as persistent chat rooms (channels) organized by topic, private groups, and direct messaging. In addition to these online communication features, Slack is able to integrate with other software.[13] Slack runs on Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android, Windows Phone and iOS.

Slack offers many IRC-style features, including persistent chat rooms (channels) organized by topic, private groups, and direct messaging.[33] Content, including files, conversations, and people, is all searchable within Slack. Users can add emoji buttons to their messages, which other users can then click to express their reactions to messages.[34][35] Slack's free plan limits users to viewing and searching only the most recent 10,000 messages.[36] In March 2020, Slack redesigned its platform in an attempt to further simplify the user experience.[37]

If you're unfamiliar with Slack parlance, a channel is like a room for chatting about a certain topic. Let's say everyone in an organization joins the company's Slack account. The first time a person enters the app, they see a list of channels on the left. Some channels are open for anyone to join. Some are by invitation only and hidden from view. Each channel has a name that describes the topic of the chat room. There might be a channel for each department or project, in addition to a few channels for socializing based on people's interests.

Better names are titles of projects, clients, or departments. People usually create channels for socializing, too, so that banter and off-topic chatter doesn't get mixed in with work conversations too much. Some popular options are channels for parents, pet owners, LGBTQ+ individuals, book clubs, sports, among others.

The website and app offer public online spaces called servers as well as private chat channels where users can interact through instant messaging (text and emojis), file sharing and voice or video calls through the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoiP). VoIP is the technology that delivers multimedia communications for online platforms such as Skype and Google Meet, rather than via the public switched telephone network (PSTN).

Slack Huddles were created in order to recreate the "quick, informal discussions" that you often have in the office. Huddles let you work in real time with your teammates with video, multi-person screen sharing and a thread for notes. It's possibe to start a huddle in any channel or direct message (DM) thread. On the free version of Slack, huddles can have a maximum of two participants. On paid subscriptions, huddles can have up to 50 participants.
